The word absurd or absurdity is very peculiar in that there is no clear definition for the term. Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary gave its definition of absurd as having no rational or orderly relationship to human life: meaningless, also: lacking order or value. Many existential philosophers have defined it in their own manner. Soren Kierkegarrd, a pre-World War II German philosopher, defined absurd as that quality of Christian faith which runs counter to all reasonable human expectation (Woelfel 40). Jean-Paul Sartre a post-WW II French philosopher, felt that absurd was the sheer contingency or ‘thereness’ or gratuitousness of the world (Woelfel 41). In absurdity there are two options once realized, that one can commit su icide and ruin the totally uncompromising relationship, or to stay and deal with the absurdity. For most whom are able to view mans relation to the world as absurd, suicide does not become an option for them. Once it is realized that one is absurd, they are happy, and are ready to die whenever they are faced with death (Woelfel 43-45). By one coming to this realization of absurdity, that person may appear to be alienated or exiled or a stranger, much like Meursault in The Stranger. For Woelfel, what is later described as absurdity by Camus comes out in two passages in The Stranger. When Meursault is asked why he shot the Arab, because of his understanding of himself and the world being absurd, he answers it was because of the sun (Camus 103). Also just before Meursault is being executed, he thinks to himself about the gentle indifference of the world (Camus, Stranger 122), which Woelfel feels is Meursault’s acceptance of absurdity (Woelfel 21). The Forest Creative Writing Essay For English Essay There’s a forest bordering the town that I live in. The adults refuse to go near it or talk of what lies within. From the time we consciously understand our parents teach us not to step foot in there because the â€Å"Unmentionable Monsters† will get you. Of course as kids with wild imaginations we made our own predictions about what it could be. The Boogie Man, Dracula, werewolves, ghosts, and all sorts of other ghouls came to mind. These are just rumors made in a child’s mind. The fact in the situation is all those who enter The Forest, never return. They disappear without a trace. No trail, no clues, no nothing. This is where I had issues with The Forest. How can somebody just disappear? From the time of my first memory up until now I have been filled with curiosity. As I grew my instinct to investigate pulled me towards the mystery of The Forest like gravity pulls an object to earth. Then at 16, I found myself with the greatest opportunity hanging over my head. â€Å"So Chris, are you up for it?†Micah Questioned.I’m Chris and Micah was my best friend. My capture dragged me all the way back into the forest before releasing me. As I turned around to fight I realized it was only Micah and Dustin. Thankfully, all their organs were intact and there was no blood. At their feet sat a pile of supplies they must have grabbed before getting me, it wasn’t much though. â€Å"We have to get out of here. I could feel it poking around in my mind as if trying to take control. I didn’t trust this thing and I didn’t trust Dustin to be strong willed enough to fight it off in his mind. It was time to run. As me and Micah took off into the forest I noticed Dustin stayed behind. I was right he had fallen into the trap. Not long after taking off footsteps could be heard in pursuit. I did the stupid thing and turned my head towards Luka and Dustin. Running into a tree hurts. Then being pulled up buy your hair doesn’t help the cause. I was caught and Dustin was able to make quick work of catching Micah. Hours later I was tied up with MY climbing ropes, in MY tent. Luka had re-killed Julian; something about an unintelligent lower level scum. I had no idea what happened to Dustin and Micah, but I had a feeling their luck ran dry and they were now in the same situation as Luka. Katherine’s body was still on the ground when we were walked back into camp. Because we are pure, girl’s bodies are unable to be possessed. Unluckily for me that doesn’t mean were not entertaining while still alive. Those things outside laughed and enjoyed normal conversation as if they were human, but I knew better. I want this to be a warning to all those who live around The Forest. It is filled with an evil unlike any other. Luka, Micah, Dustin, and I are the only survivors of The Forest, but not all of us survived.

No changes observed Physical and Chemical Properties of two Metals (Mg & Cu) † Conclusion/ Evaluation Conclusion/Evaluation Conclusion In our experiments the magnesium seemed to have reacted better in our experiments than the copper, although some of their physical properties are the same, both are for example shiny in their color and have a smooth surface.. In three of our copper experiments no change took place whereas the magnesium always showed some kind of reaction to our experiment. But magnesium and copper do also seem to have some reactions in common, as to see at experiment D, where we took steel wool and cleaned the surface of the magnesium and copper, physical properties were observed, the surface of both got even more smooth and it got more shiny. We were observing a physical change in part C where the magnesium stripe broke easily, but the copper did not break easy at all. We were also observing chemical changes such as the boiling of the magnesium in experiment F, a new gas was created. Physical properties were observed in experiment E for the magnesium as well as the copper where the phenolphthalein and the water changed its color to pink with the magnesium and in a cloudy white with the copper stripe, meaning that magnesium, water and phenolphthalein or copper, water and phenolphthalein do change the color of the created. We did not observe any changes in experiments G,H and I for our copper stripes, whereas we observed changes in experiment H for the magnesium part where the liquid started bubbling, a new gas was thus created which is evidence for a chemical change. Evaluation This experiment showed very well how different copper and magnesium react by doing several similar experiments with each of them, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement because I am quite sure that there are either changes or specific properties occuring in parts G to I with the copper. The fact that no reaction took place might have been due to not enough liquid for those experiments, it might have been helpful to either add more or do several trails with each one having a different value of liquid in it. In general it is always better to have numerous trails, this would give us better evidence about changes which might not have been regular, but occured due to unpreciseness when doing the experiments. It might have also been interesting to measure the temperature of the boiling liquid, whether or not there is a difference between the reaction with copper and magnesium or not. We only had about 40 minutes to complete our entire experiment, which was, in my oppinion, not enough time to complete all steps properly with a high preciseness, more time would have been helpful, too.

One Sunday moming, I received an invitation from a friend of mine, Sudhir. I had come back from the UK to my native place. So, he invited me to lunch. I got up early in the morning and started getting ready. My sister gave me a cup of tea early in the morning. Then, 1 took my bath and got ready. My sister then again asked me to take some snacks and tea but I refused to take it as I was more interested in reaching my friend’s house. She insisted upon me to take a heavy breakfast but I ignored her request. I went out of my house and stood at the bus-stop.I boarded the bus. The conductor came and asked me to buy a ticket. I asked him to give me a ticket for Babar Lane. The conductor frowned upon me saying, â€Å"It is going in the reverse direction, you get down at the next stop and catch another bus. † I was baffled for some time. Everyday, our society puts on many faces, their business face, their friendly face, happy face, and a face for a date, even a face of indifference. Why? We all know the answer to that, as a matter a fact we all have different answers (or the same). It is either to hide or protect, or deceive. In The Awakening, Kate Chopin uses elaborate diction and intricate details to show the juxtaposition of Edna Pontellier’s outward and inward character to portray the necessity for equality between sexes. For one, through the effects of light and the absence of it, Chopin uses this sense of sight to metaphorically symbolize the two different sides Madame Pontellier has in her novel. Whereas the shadows, the darkness, represented the forbidden desire for a woman (Edna) to have independence and be competent with men, the light was the epitome of reality. The use of darkness is apparent in page 52 when she casts down her â€Å"glittering circlet† in the darkness of her room with an explosion of hatred of the suffocating chains of marriage, her marital duties and obligations. Towards the end of the novel when she was at the beach on page 115 â€Å"gleaming with the million lights of the sun.† The choice to use million, an overwhelming number fits with Madame Pontellier’s overwhelmed emotion and the realization that she can not go on trying to clutch at the hems of independence. Chopin uses light as the social hierarchy and the reality that women are subordinate and de pendent to men during her time. Meaning cooking for the men as they bring home the paycheck, looking pretty for them and accept that their opinion does not matter as much as the men’s. However, the night time is when she shows her desires, her rebelling to break from the chains of social conformity. As Edna Pontellier moves back into the city after summer has passed two different sides of her finally emerge to the surface, as if each side were two separate people. Edna as a mother, can be referred from the behavior of her children on page 7 â€Å"if one of the little Pontellier boys took a tumble†¦at play, he was not apt to rush crying to his mother’s arms for comfort,† that she was distant with her children, only raising them half heartedly. It’s apparent that there is a lack of loving connection that ‘normal’ mothers would have with her offspring, and yet she doesn’t care about the whispers behind her back of how she takes care of them. Juxtaposing with Edna as a mother, her artist persona symbolizes her yearning disparity for independence. Unfortunately for her boys, Madame Pontellier holds her amateur profession as a painter much higher than her kids. The surfacing of becoming a painter also signifies the surfacing of her outward appearance in her attempts to actually be independent, independent from her husband and social conformity. In the end, she escapes by swimming out into the seductive â€Å"abyss of solitude.† This was, in essence, a paradoxically triumphant ending to her life, for even though she kills herself, it was the only choice that she made wholeheartedly and independently. Also, by ending her life she has the victory that no one except herself controls her soul, her being. It is out in the depths of the sea where her inward questioning meets in harmony with her outward veneer.
